July’s program — Resizing Quilt Blocks
Have you ever needed to resize a quilt block? For example, have you wanted to convert a 12-inch finished block to a 15-inch finished block, or a 12-inch finished block to an 8-inch finished block? Have you ever thought about enlarging a 12-inch finished block into a 48-inch finished block for a cute baby quilt? There is actually a very easy way to do this. It involves a simple mathematical formula. Don’t let the math scare you away. There will be a short demonstration with a take-home handout for the formulas and examples on how to use them along with references.  Bring a copy of your favorite quilt block design, paper, pencil and a calculator and we will have a demonstration followed by a hands-on exercise on how to convert your own quilt block into different sizes. See you in July.

President's Message:
It has been Hot...Hot...Hot this summer so I have decided to do what Linda does and make Summer my Sew (Snow) Days by finishing up some UFO's and working on some wool applique. There are a lot of free sew-alongs out there between Moda, Pat Sloan and Primitive Gatherings on the internet. Plus Gwen and Mary have lots of flannel and kits for those in need.

Another thing you could do this summer is to organize your sewing space. Who knows what treasures you will find to work on, add to a project or donate to raffle baskets for the quilt show. I will bring a donation tub to every meeting for donations for baskets. There are a lot of opportunities to beat the  heat... between charity quilting, guild meeting or Jean Genton's free Dresden Class I hope to see you there.

Leesa Lloyd

Charity quilting is taking a break in July. Gwen and Mary will not be at the July meet-ing so please keep your quilts until Aug. Bring your hearts for Kathy Rapecki. Charity Monday will not meet in July. Regular activities will resume in Au-gust.

Brown Bag Challenge
Do you have fabric that you bought and don't know what to do with it? Want to be inspired by a new pattern or design? Are you lazy and want someone else to Make something for you?
Gather three fat quarter that go together...put a note with your name and three things that you like to do for fun (besides quilting) Put everything in a bag. You give a bag you get a bag...

You will have three months to make something small (no larger than 30 x 30). It can be a mug rug, a table runner, a bag, a water bottle holder...Once you give up the bag, you give up control. We ex-change in August...you have September, October and November to work on it. In December, you will get a fun Christmas gift from your Tree City Santa. It will be fun to see if you can recognize your fabric or if you remember :)

UFO Challenge
Bring a UFO that you plan to finish this year. If you bring it finished by the end of the year you will get a prize. We will present them at show and tell. It is up to
you if you want to tell the date when you started it.

Workshop August 4 (Saturday)

A potluck dish gets you a free class. Come spend Saturday 8/4 at Grace Baptist church and make a pretty Garden Quilt. Jean Genton will be teaching this fun Applique Dresden plate. Think about Daisies... Sunflowers... any color that makes you happy. 9 am-4 pm

Patriotic Quilts for Quilt Show
PLEASE make a patriotic lap quilt, wheel chair bag or walker bag for a mini display at the quilt show that shows our support to the Gainesville VA. We will have an extra View-er's Choice award just for this mini display. There will be some charity workshop op-portunities throughout the year for participation.
